In Celebration

for Organ (1988)

Return to Gwyneth Walker Music Catalog

In Celebration is the exciting closing organ voluntary to the work Bethesda Evensong, a cycle of sacred choral works. The piece opens with a rhythmic figuration in the manuals which becomes the basis of a number of countermelodies and rhythmic patterns. Much of this section is centered around the pitches D-E-F#-G# (and the resulting D major and E major tonalities). A canonic middle section leads to the return of the opening material.
