Commissioned by cellist Zon Eastes and the Brattleboro Music Center.

"Dancing til Dawn" displays patterns overlapping, coalescing into jagged rhythms of homophony, diverging and then coalescing again. This is a playful and bouncy movement.

"Light Rising" opens with a theme, featuring repeated 16th-notes (perhaps specks of light). This pattern is played first by Vcl.3 (in a low range) and then rises as it is adopted by the other players. The music grows in dynamics, tempi and intensity (accents).

A break in the growth occurs with the arrival of a contrasting section, lighter, in 3/8. This leads to a return of the opening theme, which now rises into the high register, as a celebration of light.
