This is the Day the Lord Hath Made was initially composed for solo Soprano and solo Baritone voices, as a wedding gift for Sandra and Thomas Cooch. The music was performed at the Cooch wedding in Randolph, VT, with Marjorie Drysdale (Soprano) and Robert Eddy (Baritone). A subsequent version for SATB was created.

This is a combination of two texts: "This is the Day the Lord Hath Made" (Isaac Watts) and "Pied Beauty" (Gerard Manley Hopkins). The message is one of giving praise for the beauty of the day, for faith and for "skies of couple colour as a brindled cow..."

Notes by the composer

Errata in first edition of the score -- Insert "Tutti" in m. 25 for all voices; revert to "Soli" in mm. 31-2; and then "Tutti" in m. 37.
