Commissioned by the Sanctuary Choir of The First United Methodist Church of Sarasota, Florida to honor their Music Director, Elizabeth Hines Goldstein on the occasion of her retirement

Music Director Elizabeth Goldstein, the inspiration for this anthem, is known for her energetic approach to music-making. Constantly in motion, she seems to dance as she conducts. Her spirit floats with joy and musicality.

Therefore, a song based on Psalm 30 seemed appropriate. For these words bring a message of joy after darkness, and of dancing after sorrow.

You have lifted the darkness and filled me with light. You have turned my sorrow into dancing.

How simple a message! There is joy in the morning!

[The final single note in the piano is described as a ray of joy.]
